CORPORATE OFFICE

RETAIL TECHNOLOGY INTERNSHIP SUMMER 2005

The following describes the Retail Technology intern positions to assist Hy-Vee, Inc. in the summer of 2005. The Retail Technology department will be doing two projects and will hire two sets of interns for the positions of Computer System Installations/Updates and Training/Support. The necessary training required for this position will be provided.

COMPUTER SYSTEM INSTALLATIONS/UPDATES:
This group will be visiting the stores to install and update Windows computer systems. Interns will replace existing SQL servers and older workstations, re-image existing workstations, replace laser printers, and perform other maintenance.

TRAINING/SUPPORT:
This group will be training on the use of a Windows Pocket PC device running internally developed applications. Interns will be visiting the stores to train the management team as a group.

Both positions will be Monday through Friday, with travel and overnight stays. The internships will begin in mid-May and conclude in mid-August. All interns must have a valid driver's license and will be driving their own vehicle. Mileage and travel expenses will be reimbursed.

  INVENTORY CONTROL INTERN SUMMER 2005

We have one Inventory Control Internship position available to assist Hy-Vee, Inc. in the implementation and evaluation of the Computer Assisted Reordering System (CARS) in our retail stores. This position will be from approximately May 16, 2005 to August 19, 2005. This Monday through Friday position will be 40 hours per week with occasional overtime. This position is located in the West Des Moines corporate office, but the majority of the time will be spent traveling to the stores with overnight stay. This would be an excellent opportunity for anyone considering a career with Hy-Vee, Inc. The necessary training required for this position will be provided.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Evaluates perpetual inventory procedures and makes recommendations to the Store Director.
2. Assists stores with setting up new departments and sections on the CARS program.
3. Creates and revises user manuals.
4. Posts all CARS documentation on the Hy-Vee Net.
5. Makes recommendations on how to improve store level training on the CARS program.
6. Reports to work when scheduled and on time.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

1. A basic understanding of Hy-Vee retail operations.
2. A valid driver's license and must be 18 years of age.
3. Good instruction skills and the ability to review the work of others.
4. Good verbal and written communication skills.
5. Experience with RBX and CARS is helpful, but not required.
6. A strong background in mathematics, statistics, or business preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB:

Iowa's Latino Heritage Festival--Business Intern--Des Moines

 

Latino Resources, Inc, is a non-profit entity that has been developed to serve as the umbrella to the Latino Hertiage Festival. This year the Festival will be held on Saturday September 17, 2005 on the downtown bridges of Des Moines. This event draws more that twenty thousand people throughout the day.

This event offers attendees a family oriented event filled with learning through music, dance, food, children's activities, arts and cultural exhibits from various Central and South American countries. This event also emphasizes the uniqueness of the culture by demonstrating that his community is a diversity within a diveristy. It is also a venue that showcases Iowa-based performers, artisans, and cultural craftsmen. And through distinct activities and exhibits educates the youth to a better understanding of the Latino culture, as well as teach them tolerance and appreciation of diversity. This event served as a vehicle to unite various agencies, corporations, and community entities that have tried to outreach to the Latino community. This venue has made Iowans aware of the positive aspects the Latino community a sense of ownership, accomplishment and ethnic pride.

The Latino Resources, Inc has recently established a small office in which the festival coordinator works out of. Setting up the office, data base, email serve list while fund raising for the event has been very time consuming since it is a one person operation. As Because of budget constains we would need a non paid intern.

When?
Internship program begins June 6, 2005 and ends July 22, 2005. Working 20 hours per week for seven weeks, interns will earn $8.00 per hour for the seven-week experience. Please refer to the back of the flyer for a more complete description of the internship experiences.

Under the direction of a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, interns will develop a schedule of activities, based on their interests, that may include:

Child Advocate Intern

Children and Families of Iowa, a non-profit social services agency is offering internship opportunities for Child Advocates at the Family Violence Center. The Family Violence Center provides safe shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children at a confidential location in Des Moines.

The student will work under the general supervision of the Family Violence Center Volunteer Coordinator with immediate supervision from the Child Advocates. The student will be responsible for providing services to the children staying at the Family Violence Center by helping organize and supervise structured activities and support groups for the children that will create a safe and supportive environment for the growth and development of these children. The student must also be available to assist in childcare on Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm.

Asian Community Outreach Coordinator

Job description: Support efforts of Monsoon to coordinate sexual assault awareness and organizing efforts in Iowa Asian and Asian-American communities. Assist community-based organizations raising awareness and developing helpful responses to sexual assault survivors. Provide training on culturally appropriate responses to sexual assault survivors; provide technical assistance to sexual assault crisis centers. Some travel. Primarily weekday, some evening and weekend hours.

Knowledge of Asian communities in Iowa or similar state
Knowledge of violence against women issues and culturally specific issues affecting survivors of violence
Experience working with community based organizations, organizing experience helpful
Public speaking, presentation skills
Ability to work cooperatively with groups and individuals

We have an accounting internship position available at the Corporate Office in West Des Moines. The internship will be from mid May through mid August. This Monday through Friday position will be 40 hours per week with occasional overtime.
